TV series and Movies for Data Science Enthusiasts

Our professors love to mention the movie The Matrix in our statistics sessions which reminded us of so many cool TV series and movies which are underrated, fun and full of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technology.

So, here are few of our favourites.

Movie: The Imitation Game (2014)

If you are a fan of history and thriller movies, this one is based on British mathematician and cryptanalyst (also known as Father of Computer Science) Alan Turing’s life when he joins the cryptography team to decipher the German enigma code with intelligent machine during World War 2. This movie is well written with powerful narration, dialogues and an amazing screenplay. Also, BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH.

Honestly, this movie will remind you of our famous game, Grand Theft Auto’s side characters. While making you feel like you are in a video game, the movie is so much more about how artificially intelligent characters may adapt and behave with the code written for them. The movie is packed with action packed scenes, cool sounds with the VFX that keeps you engaged making it a good-watch.

Based on the 2003 nonfiction book with the same title by Michael Lewis, a baseball coach along with his manager uses statistics on the players and games data for increasing the chances of winning the tournament. This movie does a great job depicting the idea and possibility of everybody’s reaction of being amazed and shocked with this new approach in the sports industry. This movie is also often mentioned in our statistics class. Our favourite dialogue is “It’s about getting things down to one number. Using the stats the way we read them we’ll find value in players that nobody else can see.”
